NERS NEWS – Groups 1, 2, and 3 of Nursing Profession students from the Community Nursing Rotation, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, successfully conducted an occupational safety education program (SAP). The event, themed “AMAN: Rapid Action and Proper Burn Injury Management,” was held at the SPPG Klampis Mukti.
The program was specifically designed for the employees of the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) as part of an initiative to enhance Occupational Health and Safety (K3) standards during the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. The session was conducted interactively through lectures, discussions, and live demonstrations of first aid for burn injuries.
Participants showed high enthusiasm, actively asking questions and sharing their personal experiences regarding burn risks in the workplace—particularly during food processing and cooking. These discussions were vital, as burns are a significant workplace injury that can lead to serious complications if not treated promptly and correctly.
During the session, participants were educated on the definitions, causes, classifications, and potential complications of burns, as well as first aid steps for minor injuries. The educators emphasized critical initial actions, such as:
- Cooling the wound with running water.
- Avoiding the application of home remedies (such as toothpaste or oil).
- Seeking immediate medical assistance when necessary.
Additionally, employees were reminded to consistently apply safety principles to prevent accidents, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining vigilance when working with heat sources.
Through this education program, it is hoped that SPPG employees can increase their awareness of workplace risks, consistently implement preventive measures, and perform correct initial burn management to minimize the impact of injuries and prevent complications.
