PINTAR ASI: Young Ners of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga Educate Mothers in the Perinatology Ward on Proper and Responsive Breastfeeding Techniques

NERS NEWS — Young Ners from the Professional Nursing Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity in the Perinatology Ward of Universitas Airlangga Hospital on Friday, July 10, 2026. Carrying the theme “PINTAR ASI (A Guide for Mothers to Breastfeed with Accurate and Responsive Techniques),” the program was designed for mothers visiting their babies in the Perinatology Ward to enhance their knowledge and skills in breastfeeding from the earliest stage.

The PKRS session was held in the Perinatology family waiting area using lectures, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, enabling participants not only to understand the educational material but also to practice proper breastfeeding techniques. The activity aimed to improve mothers’ understanding of correct breastfeeding techniques to support successful breastfeeding and promote optimal infant growth and development.

During the session, participants received education on the definition and benefits of proper breastfeeding techniques, the steps of breastfeeding, correct latch-on techniques, signs of effective breastfeeding, various breastfeeding positions, proper methods for releasing the baby’s latch, common breastfeeding mistakes, practical tips for successful breastfeeding, recognizing infant hunger and satiety cues, and appropriate burping techniques after feeding. The material was delivered interactively, allowing mothers to discuss their experiences and challenges during breastfeeding.

Participants demonstrated great enthusiasm throughout the program. Mothers actively asked questions about comfortable breastfeeding positions, how to ensure a proper latch, and what to do when their babies experienced difficulties with breastfeeding. Through the discussion session, participants received practical solutions that could be directly applied in their daily breastfeeding practices.

Through this PKRS activity, the Young Ners of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, reaffirmed their commitment to improving the quality of healthcare services through evidence-based health education. It is hoped that the knowledge gained from this educational program will increase mothers’ confidence in breastfeeding, support the success of exclusive breastfeeding, and contribute to healthy and optimal infant growth and development.
