NERS NEWS – Nursing Profession Practice Students from the Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, Batch B27 Group 2, conducted a health education session entitled “The Importance of Bathing and Tooth Brushing” in the BONA 1 Pediatric Inpatient Ward at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10.00 WIB. The purpose of this activity was to increase the knowledge of patients and patients’ families regarding the benefits of bathing, proper bathing procedures for children with intravenous infusions, the benefits of tooth brushing, and the correct way to brush teeth.
This activity was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Praba Diyan Rachmawati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., as the academic supervisor, and Ners Intan Nurcahyani, S.Kep., Ns., as the clinical instructor, as part of the clinical practice learning process and community service in the teaching hospital environment. The educational session began with an opening and an introduction by the students as presenters, followed by the delivery of material regarding the benefits of bathing, the consequences of poor hygiene, proper bathing and sponge bathing techniques, as well as bathing procedures for patients with intravenous infusions. In addition, the presenters also explained the benefits of tooth brushing and the correct tooth brushing technique. During the presentation, participants showed great enthusiasm, as reflected by their attention to the material and active participation during the question-and-answer session.
The educational activity was conducted in an orderly, smooth, and conducive manner and concluded with a documentation session as evidence of the activity implementation. In addition, a brief evaluation was carried out through oral questions to assess participants’ understanding of the material presented. The evaluation results showed that most participants were able to explain how to bathe patients with intravenous infusions, how to perform sponge bathing, and the correct way to brush teeth. This indicates that the educational session was well received and had a positive impact on improving participants’ knowledge.
Through this activity, it is hoped that participants, especially pediatric patients and their families, will not only understand the information theoretically but also be able to apply it in their daily lives.
