NERS NEWS – Surabaya – Students of the Nursing Profession Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Education (PKRS) program themed “Prepare Nutrition, Ensure Surgery Success! A Guide to Post-Operative Nutrition” on Friday, March 6, 2026. The event was held in the OK Waiting Room of Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA), targeting the families of patients undergoing surgery to improve their understanding of the importance of nutritional fulfillment after a procedure.
The PKRS activity was carried out through interactive lectures and Q&A sessions, utilizing educational leaflets and posters as informative media. The materials covered the definition of post-operative nutrition, the objectives and benefits of proper nourishment, types of recommended and restricted foods, and correct dietary patterns during the post-surgery recovery period.
The session was attended by approximately 15 family members waiting for services at the RSUA OK Waiting Room. Starting at 10:00 AM WIB, the event proceeded smoothly. Participants showed great enthusiasm, paying close attention to the presentation and actively asking questions regarding safe and recommended food choices for patients post-surgery.
The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance the knowledge and awareness of patients’ families regarding the importance of proper nutrition during recovery. With a clear understanding, families are expected to support the patient’s healing process by providing appropriate meals that accelerate wound healing, boost the immune system, and prevent post-operative complications.

Through this PKRS activity, it is hoped that families can play an active role in supporting the recovery process by monitoring nutritional intake. Furthermore, this activity serves as a contribution from nursing students to improve public health literacy within the hospital environment.
