Professional Nursing Students Hold “GERMAS D’OVIT” Program: Healthy Home Movement through Decluttering and Ovitrap in RW 02 Kalijudan

NERS NEWS — The GERMAS D’OVIT program is an initiative that encourages communities to create a healthier home environment by sorting and removing unused items (decluttering) and installing ovitraps, a simple tool used to monitor and control mosquito breeding. In addition to environmental clean-up activities, residents were also provided with education on the importance of maintaining cleanliness at home and in the surrounding environment as an effort to prevent environmentally related diseases.

The program was implemented gradually in each neighborhood unit (RT) within RW 02, Kalijudan Village. The first activity was held on March 1 in RT 03, followed by activities on March 8 in RT 02 and RT 04, and the final activity on March 9 in RT 01. The program involved active participation from residents, RT/RW community leaders, and students who played a role in providing health education and assisting with the installation of ovitraps.

This activity aimed to increase community awareness in maintaining a clean home environment, reduce potential mosquito breeding sites, and encourage the adoption of clean and healthy living habits within the community. In addition, the program serves as part of promotive and preventive efforts to improve environmental health in the community. The program also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through the prevention of environmentally related diseases. Furthermore, this activity contributes to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and also SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

A representative of the program stated that through this initiative, it is hoped that the community will become more aware of the condition of their home environments. Through decluttering activities and the installation of ovitraps, residents are expected to maintain environmental cleanliness and actively participate in preventing mosquito-borne diseases.

Through the GERMAS D’OVIT program, it is hoped that the community will continue to apply clean and healthy living habits while maintaining the cleanliness of their home environments in a sustainable manner. This activity also represents a tangible contribution to increasing public awareness of the importance of environmental health and supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals.
