“SEHATI 2026” (Great Family Education Strategy: Strong Children, Mothers in Recovery) Project-Based Learning (PJBL) Group 1 Class A2/A2024

NERS NEWS — Nursing students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, through a Project-Based Learning (PJBL) activity integrated with the courses Maternity Nursing, Healthy and Acute Illness Pediatric Nursing, and Psychosocial Culture in Nursing, conducted a health education program entitled “SEHATI” on Friday (22/05) at RW 07 Hall, Dukuh Sutorejo, Surabaya. This activity aimed to improve public knowledge, especially among PKK mothers, regarding maternal post-partum health and newborn care through education and hands-on practical demonstrations.

The “SEHATI” program was carried out through several stages of health education and practical demonstrations. The materials delivered included post-partum maternal care to prevent baby blues, newborn care education such as proper breastfeeding techniques, oral hygiene for infants, and how to bathe a newborn. In addition, students also demonstrated proper breastfeeding latch techniques to help mothers understand correct positioning and attachment during breastfeeding. This activity involved PJBL Group 1 Class A2/A2024 students under the supervision of lecturers Ilya Krisnana, Retnayu Pradanie, and Sylvia Dwi Wahyuni. The program was held on Friday, May 22, from 08.00 to 11.00 WIB at RW 07 Hall, Jalan Raya Sutorejo No.210-C, RT.003/RW.07, Dukuh Sutorejo, Mulyorejo District, Surabaya. The activity also received support from the RW 07 community leader, Mr. Shofuwan Arief, and was attended by PKK mothers as well as children and infants from the local community.

The implementation of the “SEHATI” activity aimed to increase awareness and community capacity in maintaining maternal and child health from an early stage. Education on preventing baby blues and newborn care is expected to help mothers face the postpartum period with better preparedness and confidence. This program also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through improved health education and promotive and preventive nursing efforts.

Mr. Shofuwan Arief, the RW 07 community leader, expressed his appreciation for the activity. “This activity is very beneficial for residents, especially mothers who have babies or are in the postpartum period. Education and demonstration practices like this help the community gain correct and easy-to-understand health knowledge,” he said. Through the PJBL “SEHATI” program, nursing students not only applied the knowledge gained during their studies but also made a real contribution to the community. It is hoped that similar activities can continue sustainably as a form of service and support for improving public health quality and achieving the SDGs in Indonesia.
