The Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Airlangga Strengthens Educational Quality through Curriculum Redesign and a Fast Track Program

NERS NEWS – The Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Airlangga organized a Workshop on the Finalization of Minor Revisions for Curriculum Redesign and the Fast Track Curriculum in collaboration with the Directorate of Education of Universitas Airlangga. The workshop aimed to finalize and align the curriculum with higher education policies, while also supporting accelerated study periods and enhancing graduates’ competitiveness.

The workshop focused on presenting policies and the implementation of the fast track scheme from the master’s to doctoral level. This included discussions on implementation mechanisms, document requirements, program readiness, course registration systems (KRS), funding schemes, and student study timelines. The speakers emphasized that fast track participants must undergo a rigorous selection process to ensure they can optimally complete both levels of education without posing academic or financial risks. In addition, the continuous role of supervisors from the master’s to doctoral level was highlighted as a critical factor, requiring clearly defined and distinct learning outcomes at each level. During the discussion session, participants provided input on aligning course titles, ensuring credit loads (SKS) match learning outcomes, and clarifying the distinction between instructional courses (16 face-to-face sessions) and supervisory components such as internships, seminars, proposals, and final projects to ensure a more accountable and proportional curriculum structure.

The workshop was held on April 27, 2026, featuring speakers from the Directorate of Education of Universitas Airlangga: Dr. Maftuchah Rochmanti, dr., M.Kes. (Director of Education), Aris Cahyo Purnomo, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes. (Head of Subdirectorate for Educational Development and Administration), and Dian Fristyawati, S.KM. (Head of Academic Development and Evaluation Section). The session was moderated by Dr. Sriyono, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Ns.Sp.Kep.MB., Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, and was attended by the Dean, Vice Deans, program coordinators and their secretaries, lecturers, educational staff, and student representatives. The agenda continued with an overview presentation of the five study programs within the Faculty of Nursing, particularly at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Participants were then divided into six working groups to conduct Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), consisting of five groups for minor curriculum revisions and one group dedicated to developing the fast track curriculum. The workshop concluded with presentations from each group along with follow-up plans for curriculum implementation.

This workshop was conducted in response to the restructuring of curriculum document components by the Directorate of Education following the issuance of new policies, the need to align with national higher education standards, advancements in science and technology, and the need to improve synchronization across courses and educational levels. The activity aimed to finalize minor curriculum revisions across several study programs, produce a structured and implementation-ready fast track curriculum document, align course structures with the latest policies, and support the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the education sector. These efforts contribute to enhancing flexibility, globalization, and sustainability in higher education, while improving the quality of learning and the competitiveness of nursing graduates at both national and global levels.

This activity directly contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education through strengthening adaptive curricula, integrating fast track schemes for study efficiency, improving alignment of learning outcomes, and enhancing the quality of competent and globally competitive graduates.
