Together with the Faculty of Nursing Unair, IIUM Delegates Learn About and Observe Complementary Medicine Practices

NERS NEWS — Surabaya, August 21, 2026 — As the closing of the Staff Outbound series, the Faculty of Nursing invited delegates from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) to learn more closely about complementary medicine practices that have developed in the healthcare field, namely acupuncture and cupping, guided by Dr. Andri Setiya Wahyudi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., a lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing, as well as recipients of certificates who practiced the treatments. Through this activity, the delegates were able to directly observe these complementary medicine practices and also try them themselves.

Before the practical session began, Dr. Andri Setiya Wahyudi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., first explained the basic principles and the equipment used. After that, Dr. Andri asked one of the students to volunteer to demonstrate how the cupping and acupuncture procedures were carried out. When the practical session began, the IIUM delegates appeared very enthusiastic in asking about the benefits, risks, and safety of these treatments. Seeing this enthusiasm, Dr. Andri invited one of the IIUM delegates to participate in practicing the cupping procedure. After the cupping practice session was completed, Dr. Andri continued by demonstrating the acupuncture procedure. During this session, the IIUM delegates were no less enthusiastic than in the previous session. In this session, Dr. Andri invited the delegates to try the procedure directly. Although they were initially hesitant, the delegates still tried it and were impressed by the feeling of relaxation after undergoing acupuncture. In addition, the delegates also shared their views, concerns, and unpleasant experiences when trying this treatment in the past, as well as praised Dr. Andri’s skills in performing this complementary treatment.

Through this activity, the Faculty of Nursing also reflected and supported its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 concerning “Good Health and Well-Being,” through the exchange of knowledge regarding various approaches to healthcare services. Furthermore, the interaction between the academic community of the Faculty of Nursing Unair and the IIUM delegates is expected to broaden their perspectives and knowledge while encouraging collaboration in the development of quality and sustainable health knowledge.
