NERS NEWS – Professional Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga (Unair), organized a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 09:00 AM WIB. Held at the IRNA 3A Graha Trimed Ward of Universitas Airlangga Hospital, the event focused on the theme: “Education on Preventing Diabetic Neuropathy through Diabetic Foot Exercises” as a promotive and preventive effort for patients’ families.

The program was attended by five participants, consisting of patients and their accompanying family members. The initiative aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in preventing diabetic neuropathy through proper foot care and the practice of diabetic foot exercises. These exercises are specifically designed to improve blood circulation in the lower extremities, strengthen muscles, and prevent foot complications. The education was delivered through interactive lectures, discussions, and live demonstrations, supported by leaflets, videos, and PowerPoint presentations.

The material presented covered the definition of diabetes mellitus, diabetic neuropathy, early signs and symptoms, and various preventive measures. The speakers emphasized the importance of blood sugar control, routine foot care, and physical activities such as diabetic foot exercises to prevent severe complications, including ulcers, infections, and amputation. Furthermore, participants were given the opportunity to practice the exercise movements directly to ensure a correct understanding of the steps.

The activity was conducted in an orderly and conducive manner, with participants showing great enthusiasm throughout the session. Participants actively engaged in the discussion and were able to redemonstrate the exercise movements taught. Evaluation results indicated that the majority of the learning objectives were successfully achieved. This program reflects the commitment of professional nursing students to supporting promotive and preventive services within the hospital environment. It also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, by empowering patients and families with the knowledge and skills to maintain health, prevent complications, and encourage healthy living behaviors to improve long-term quality of life.
