NERS NEWS – Nursing Profession Students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity themed “Stop Recurrent Stroke! Proper Care and Healthy Living are the Keys” for patient families at Ward IRNA 7A, Grha Trimed, Universitas Airlangga Hospital. This initiative aimed to strengthen the role of families in stroke patient care while preventing the occurrence of recurrent strokes.
The PKRS activity focused on providing health education regarding stroke, covering its definition, causes, types, as well as signs and symptoms. Additionally, students provided education on home care for stroke patients, early mobilization, Range of Motion (ROM) exercises, and efforts to prevent recurrent strokes through a healthy lifestyle. The material was delivered using lectures, Q&A sessions, and direct demonstrations to the families.
The event took place on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM WIB, and was attended by families of patients undergoing treatment at Ward IRNA 7A. The activity was carried out by Batch B27 Nursing Profession Students under the guidance of Academic Supervisor Aziz Nashiruddin H., S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep and Clinical Supervisor Nina Yaroh U., S.Kep., Ns., ensuring the material aligned with the patients’ clinical conditions and the needs of the families as primary caregivers.
This education aims to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of families in caring for stroke patients safely and independently at home. With proper education, families are expected to prevent complications such as pressure sores (decubitus), joint stiffness, and dehydration, as well as reduce the risk of secondary strokes. This activity also serves as a clinical learning platform for students to implement the nurse’s role as a health educator.
The demonstration session was the most interactive part, where families did not only receive theoretical knowledge but also directly practiced joint movement techniques under the students’ guidance. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident from their active involvement in the discussion and their ability to demonstrate the techniques taught.
This PKRS activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically supporting SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through improved health literacy, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through health education for families, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration between educational institutions and hospitals.
Through this initiative, the Nursing Profession Students of Universitas Airlangga have demonstrated a tangible contribution to improving health service quality and empowering patient families. It is hoped that similar activities will continue sustainably to support the improvement of public health standards.
