NERS NEWS – On Friday, April 10, 2026, from 08:45 to 09:22 AM local time, Professional Nursing students from Universitas Airlangga (Unair), specifically Group 4 of the Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) rotation, organized a Hospital Health Education (PKRS) program. The event, focused on HIV/AIDS and its prevention, was held in the second-floor pharmacy waiting area of Graha Trimed Hospital. The initiative aimed to educate patients and their families on the understanding, transmission, and prevention of HIV/AIDS through interactive and communicative sessions.

The activity began with an opening and introduction by the Master of Ceremonies, Awwaliyah, followed by a presentation from Apriyanti and Azara. The material covered the definition of HIV/AIDS, modes of transmission, and a clear clarification that HIV is not transmitted through social contact—such as shaking hands, hugging, sharing clothes, using the same toilet, or living in the same house. Furthermore, the speakers explained how to determine one’s HIV status through testing and counseling, as well as the essential steps for prevention and treatment. The session was highly interactive, featuring a Q&A segment where five participants actively asked questions and received tokens of appreciation.

The event was attended by approximately 30 patients and family members in the pharmacy waiting area. The program was carried out by the Unair Group 4 KMB Professional Nursing students, supervised by academic advisor Arina Qona’ah, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., and clinical instructor Dwi Suyanti, S.Kep., Ns. Both supervisors provided further insights, emphasizing the importance of reducing the stigma against people living with HIV and explaining that the virus can be managed through routine treatment and regular check-ups.

This initiative was driven by the persisting low level of public awareness and the social stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. The primary goal was to increase knowledge, foster positive attitudes, and encourage proper preventive behaviors. The program is expected to raise awareness regarding the importance of early detection, treatment, and social support. Additionally, this activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, including efforts to prevent and manage HIV/AIDS.
