Unair Nursing Students Enhance Patient Safety Through Fall Risk PKRS at Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA)

NERS NEWS — Students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Class A3 Cohort 2023 Group A6, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity themed “Beware of Fall Risk” at the Hemodialysis Unit Waiting Room of Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) on Friday (13/02/2026). The activity was carried out through health education and interactive discussions to enhance patients’ and families’ understanding of risk factors, impacts, and preventive measures related to fall incidents in the hospital setting.

The event began with participant registration, student introductions, an opening session, and a prayer from 1:00-1:30 PM (WIB). During the main session, the students delivered material on the definition of fall risk, contributing factors, potential impacts, and preventive strategies. The information was presented interactively using simple and clear language to ensure that all participants could easily understand the material.

A total of 13 participants, consisting of patients and their caregivers, attended the activity held in the RSUA Hemodialysis Unit Waiting Room. The session was supervised by the Academic Supervisor of Emergency Nursing, Dr. Yulis Setiya Dewi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Ng., and Clinical Instructor (CI) Evy Dwi W, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., who provided guidance and support throughout the implementation of the health promotion program.

The topic of fall risk was chosen because fall incidents remain one of the most common patient safety issues in hospitals, occurring from beds, bathrooms, and other areas. Through this educational initiative, participants are expected to recognize individuals at high risk of falling and independently apply appropriate preventive measures. This activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, which focuses on improving patient health and safety.

The activity concluded with a joint documentation session involving all participants and committee members. Participants expressed positive feedback and stated that they had gained a better understanding of fall risk prevention measures. It is hoped that similar activities will continue to be implemented as a form of student contribution to enhancing health literacy and supporting safe and high-quality healthcare services.
