Unair Nursing Students Hold Healthy ROM PKRS in IRNA Room 6 RSUA

NERS NEWS – Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing at Airlangga University conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity themed ROM SEHAT (Regular exercise, Strong muscles, Maintained mobility) on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Room IRNA 6 of Airlangga University Hospital.

The activity was conducted through lectures, interactive discussions, and live demonstrations of proper active and passive Range of Motion (ROM) exercises using presentation media and leaflets as an effort to increase patients’ families’ knowledge about the importance of movement exercises in maintaining muscle strength and patient mobility during the treatment period. This health education activity was conducted in the form of direct education for family members accompanying their loved ones in the care room. The topics covered included the definition and purpose of ROM exercises in preventing joint stiffness and muscle atrophy, indications and contraindications for the exercises, and the steps for performing active and passive ROM exercises using safe and proper techniques.

The presenter emphasized that patients who are bedridden or have limited mobility are at risk of experiencing muscle weakness, joint stiffness, and circulatory disorders if they do not exercise regularly. Therefore, ROM exercises are a simple but very important intervention in maintaining musculoskeletal function, improving blood circulation, and supporting the patient’s recovery process.
During the activity, participants showed enthusiasm by actively listening to the material and participating in the ROM exercise demonstration session. Patients’ families were also given the opportunity to ask questions and practice active ROM movements with the assistance of students, so that they would be able to apply them independently while accompanying patients.

This activity was carried out by Nursing Students Batch B27 Group 3, Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, with the assistance of Nurse Tiffaniy Rosita, S.Kep., Ns, who provided guidance and support during the activity. “This guidance ensures that the material presented aligns with nursing practice standards in conducting Range of Motion (ROM) exercises,” stated Endah Nabila Sutrisno Putri, one of the event organizers.

This activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of patients’ families in performing ROM exercises correctly and safely as part of patient care. In addition, this activity is a form of contribution by nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University, in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being through promotive and preventive efforts in healthcare facilities, as well as SDG 4: Quality Education through the provision of informative, accurate, and easy-to-understand health education.

The PKRS “ROM SEHAT” activity ran smoothly and received positive responses from patients’ families. “Through this activity, it is hoped that patients’ families can routinely assist patients in performing ROM exercises so that muscle strength is maintained, mobility improves, and the recovery process proceeds more optimally.”
