NERS NEWS – Group 3 of the Professional Nursing Program (Ners) Cohort B27, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Education (PKRS) activity titled “Prevention of Surgical Wound Infection at IRNA 3 RSUA” on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the waiting area of the 3rd floor Inpatient Installation of Universitas Airlangga Hospital. This activity was carried out under the supervision of Wahyuni Tri Lestari, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep. as the academic supervisor and Yevi Dwi L., S.Kep., Ns. as the clinical supervisor.
This health education activity targeted patients’ families as the main participants. Family members play an important role in supporting patient care, particularly in maintaining the cleanliness of surgical wounds and monitoring potential signs of infection during the recovery period.
The nursing students delivered educational materials covering the definition of surgical wounds, the purpose of infection prevention, signs and symptoms of surgical wound infection, and factors that influence the occurrence of infection. The material was delivered using leaflets to help participants understand the health information more clearly and make it easier to remember.
Participants showed enthusiasm throughout the session and actively engaged in discussions and the question-and-answer session. This activity is expected to improve the knowledge of patients’ families regarding surgical wound care so that they can support the patient’s healing process and recognize early signs of infection.
This PKRS activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 3, Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes the importance of improving health and well-being through promotive and preventive efforts in healthcare facilities.
