NERS NEWS — Nursing Profession students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity titled “Healthy Habits, Better Living: Education on Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS)” on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the waiting area of the ASTER High Care Unit (HCU) at Dr. Soetomo Regional General Hospital, Surabaya. The activity was intended for patients’ family members to improve their understanding of implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) to prevent infections and support patient safety during treatment in the High Care Unit (HCU).
The health education session was delivered through interactive lectures, discussions, and demonstrations using educational posters. The topics covered included the definition of PHBS, the importance of PHBS in the hospital environment, proper handwashing techniques, cough and sneeze etiquette, the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), compliance with visiting hours, limiting the number of visitors, maintaining the cleanliness of the patient’s surroundings, and practicing PHBS after the patient returns home. Throughout the session, participants showed great enthusiasm by actively engaging in discussions on how to apply PHBS in their daily lives.

During the discussion session, one participant asked about how to limit visits from neighbors or relatives who often came in large groups to visit patients. The presenter explained that family members could politely inform visitors that the patient required adequate rest and faced a high risk of infection. Families were also encouraged to comply with hospital regulations by limiting the number of visitors, arranging visits in shifts, and encouraging relatives to show their support through prayers or remote communication when in-person visits were not possible.
The PKRS activity was conducted by Group 5 of Batch B27 Nursing Profession students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, consisting of Anindiya Putri R., Jannu Mufida, Nur Asa Malinda, Syah Reza Alfiana Nuro Aini, and Maulidyah Dwi Sukma A. The activity was supervised by Arina Qona’ah, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep. as the academic supervisor and Soemiati, S.Kep., Ns., Sp.Kep.MB as the clinical supervisor, who provided guidance and supervision throughout the program.

Through this activity, it is expected that patients’ families will consistently implement Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors both while accompanying patients in the hospital and after they return home. Proper implementation of PHBS is expected to reduce the risk of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs), improve patient safety, and support a more optimal recovery process. The activity was carried out successfully and received positive responses from the participating family members. This educational initiative also reflects the contribution of Nursing Profession students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga in supporting promotive and preventive healthcare services while contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
