NERS NEWS — Nursing Professional Program students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity themed “The Importance of Adhering to Medication Regularly” for patients at Menur Hospital, Surabaya, on Tuesday (May 26, 2026). This activity aimed to increase the knowledge and medication adherence of patients with mental disorders in undergoing regular treatment therapy to prevent relapse and improve their quality of life.

The educational activity was conducted by Alamanda Group 1 of the Nursing Professional Education Program, Psychiatric Nursing Clinical Rotation, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga. The education was delivered through lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions using posters and leaflets as educational media. The materials presented included the definition of medication adherence, factors contributing to non-adherence, the benefits of taking medication regularly, the consequences of non-adherence, and strategies to improve patients’ adherence to treatment.

The educational session was conducted interactively by actively involving patients in discussions and comprehension evaluations. Participants were given the opportunity to share their experiences regarding the treatment they were undergoing and the challenges they faced during therapy. In addition, the students provided motivation to encourage patients to continue taking their medications regularly according to healthcare professionals’ recommendations and not discontinue treatment without consulting a doctor.

This activity was carried out as a form of support for improving community mental health and strengthening the role of health education in psychiatric nursing services. Medication adherence among patients with mental disorders is an important factor in maintaining mental stability, reducing the risk of relapse, and improving patients’ ability to carry out daily activities.
