NERS NEWS — Students of the Nursing Professional Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, Group D2.2-B27, conducted a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) session entitled “Febrile Seizure Education: Recognizing the Symptoms, Preventing the Risks” for patients’ families in the Pediatric Inpatient Ward of Universitas Airlangga Hospital on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The program aimed to improve families’ knowledge of recognizing the signs and symptoms of febrile seizures, providing appropriate first aid, and identifying warning signs that require immediate medical attention.
The educational session lasted approximately 30 minutes and was delivered through lectures and interactive discussions using leaflets and a PowerPoint presentation. The topics covered included the definition of febrile seizures, causes and risk factors, signs and symptoms, appropriate first-aid measures during a seizure, actions that should be avoided, and warning signs indicating that the child should be taken immediately to a healthcare facility. Participants were also encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions, creating an interactive learning environment.
The activity was conducted in the Pediatric Inpatient Ward of Universitas Airlangga Hospital and targeted family members of hospitalized pediatric patients. The program was organized by students of the Nursing Professional Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, Group D2.2-B27, under the academic supervision of Dr. Iqlima Dwi Kurnia, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., and the clinical supervision of Widia Yuniarti, S.Kep., Ns. Each group member contributed by serving as the moderator, presenter, facilitator, observer, documentation officer, or logistics coordinator, ensuring the smooth implementation of the program.
This health education initiative was designed to strengthen families’ ability to provide appropriate first aid when a child experiences a febrile seizure. Improved knowledge is expected to reduce parental panic, prevent inappropriate interventions, and encourage timely decisions to seek medical assistance when danger signs are present. The activity also contributes to improving public health literacy and reflects the hospital’s commitment to promotive and preventive healthcare services.
The PKRS program supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by improving families’ knowledge of febrile seizure management and preventing complications in children.
- SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing health education to patients’ families and enhancing health literacy.
Through this Hospital Health Promotion activity, families are expected to better recognize the symptoms of febrile seizures, administer appropriate first aid, and identify situations requiring immediate medical care. This educational initiative reflects the commitment of the Nursing Professional Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, to improving healthcare quality, empowering patients’ families, and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
