NERS NEWS — Surabaya, 15 April 2026 – The Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, held a workshop titled “Seen, Styled, and Scrutinised” on Wednesday (15/4), specifically designed for master’s and doctoral students. This event is part of the faculty’s ongoing efforts to enhance the academic and professional capacity of participants in responding to global demands in the field of nursing.
The workshop featured an international speaker, Faustino Jerome G. Babate, Ph.D., MBA, RN, LCLP, who discussed the importance of professionalism, personal branding, and ethics in the use of digital media. In his presentation, he emphasized that today’s recruitment processes rely not only on academic achievements but also on the professional image candidates present, including through platforms such as LinkedIn.
He explained that LinkedIn serves as a strategic medium for building a professional reputation, making it essential for students to present a credible and informative profile. Professionalism is also reflected in first impressions, including friendliness, effective communication, and neat appearance, all of which play a role in building trust—particularly within nursing practice.
In addition, participants were reminded to differentiate between personal and professional domains when using social media. Uploaded content—especially when wearing professional attributes—must reflect ethics and responsibility as healthcare practitioners. The speaker also stressed that digital mistakes can have long-term impacts on one’s reputation, making careful online behavior an important aspect of professionalism.
The workshop was conducted interactively through discussions and experience sharing, enabling participants to better understand appropriate strategies for building a professional image. This activity also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), in preparing competent human resources with global competitiveness.
Through this workshop, it is hoped that master’s and doctoral students of the Faculty of Nursing UNAIR will enhance their personal qualities, build a strong professional reputation, and become well-prepared to face challenges in academic and nursing practice at the international level. The workshop is expected to bring positive progress and development for all participants.
