NERS NEWS — Surabaya, September 17, 2026 — Nursing Profession students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, successfully organized a health education session on hypertension and hypertension exercises. The session was attended by 15 patients’ family members in the IRNA 3A Ward of Graha Trimed. Hypertension remains a health problem that requires attention because it often causes no specific symptoms but can increase the risk of various complications if left uncontrolled. Efforts to manage hypertension involve not only medication but also the adoption of a healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity.

To improve patients’ and families’ knowledge and awareness of hypertension management, a health education activity on hypertension and hypertension exercises was conducted in the waiting area of IRNA 3A, Graha Trimed.

The activity began with a presentation on the definition of hypertension, risk factors, signs and symptoms to be aware of, complications of hypertension, and the importance of having blood pressure checked regularly. Participants also received education on the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, limiting salt intake, managing stress, getting enough rest, and engaging in physical activity according to their abilities.

Following the educational session, the activity continued with hypertension exercises performed together under guidance. The movements were simple and adapted to the participants’ conditions so they could be performed safely. Hypertension exercises are expected to serve as an option for regular physical activity as part of efforts to maintain health and help control blood pressure.

Participants’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the activity. Patients and family members in the waiting area joined in the exercises and paid attention to the information provided. The activity also gave participants an opportunity to understand that managing hypertension requires active involvement in maintaining a healthy lifestyle rather than relying solely on medication.

Through this health education session and hypertension exercise activity, patients and families in IRNA 3A, Graha Trimed, are expected to gain a better understanding of the importance of preventing and managing hypertension and to adopt healthy habits in their daily lives.
