Airlangga Nursing Journalist of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga Holds Journalism Training at SMAN 7 Surabaya in 2026

NERS NEWS — Surabaya – Airlangga Nursing Journalist successfully held a work program titled “Teaching Journalism” on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The activity, which took place at SMAN 7 Surabaya, aimed to introduce the world of literacy and journalism to the younger generation, particularly students involved in journalism extracurricular activities at the senior high school level. Through this initiative, Airlangga Nursing Journalist (ANJ) sought to demonstrate that communication and writing skills are universal and essential across various professional fields.

The event began with welcoming remarks from both the school representatives and ANJ organizers, followed by the first presentation session. Participants from SMAN 7 Surabaya received an in-depth understanding of the basic techniques of news gathering, journalistic ethics, and how to write engaging and factual articles. Beyond theoretical explanations, the university students also shared their experiences in managing organizational media within a health sciences campus environment.

The activity then continued with the second material session, where students were introduced to the fundamentals of design in journalism. During this session, ANJ members explained the importance of layout, typography selection, and color composition in improving the readability of news articles. Students learned that design is not merely about aesthetics, but also a form of visual communication that strengthens messages and helps readers absorb important information more effectively and quickly.

In addition to technical aspects, the activity also emphasized the importance of combating misinformation and hoaxes in the digital era. Participants were taught how to verify data and select credible sources of information before sharing content on social media. This issue is particularly crucial considering the role of teenagers as active users of digital platforms who are highly vulnerable to exposure to unverified information.

The event concluded with an appreciation session for the journalism extracurricular supervisor of SMAN 7 Surabaya and the students who actively participated in the discussion session. The school expressed hope that this collaboration with Universitas Airlangga would continue in the future to further develop students’ non-academic talents in literacy. Through the completion of this program, Airlangga Nursing Journalist hopes that the journalistic spirit instilled during the activity will become valuable preparation for students to think more critically and creatively in producing meaningful work.
