NERS NEWS — Students of the Psychiatric Nursing Clinical Practice Program from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, conducted a health education session and Group Activity Therapy (GAT) on controlling the risk of violent behavior on June 3, 2026, at UPTD Liponsos Keputih. The activity was carried out through educational sessions, deep breathing exercises, and a cup relay game using ropes as an effort to improve participants’ ability to regulate their emotions and prevent the emergence of violent behavior.
The program began with a health education session discussing violent behavior, its signs and symptoms, and healthy strategies for managing anger. Participants were then guided to practice deep breathing techniques as a simple relaxation method to help control emotions when feeling angry or tense. The activity continued with a cup relay game using ropes, which emphasized teamwork, communication, concentration, and self-control within a group setting.
The program involved clinical practice students who served as moderators, presenters, facilitators, and documenters, accompanying participants throughout the entire series of activities. Through this program, participants not only gained knowledge about managing violent behavior but also had the opportunity to develop social skills, build self-confidence, and strengthen their ability to collaborate with others.
The implementation of this activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through promotive and preventive mental health efforts. Participants’ enthusiasm throughout the program demonstrated that educational approaches combined with group activity therapy can serve as effective methods for improving mental health, fostering adaptive behaviors, and supporting the creation of a healthier and more prosperous environment.
