NERS NEWS — Surabaya, Friday (April 3, 2026) — A Hospital Health Education (PKRS) activity on Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) with the subtopic of prevention through 3M Plus practices was successfully conducted in IRNA 6 Ward at 10:00 AM WIB, targeting patients’ family caregivers.
This PKRS activity was organized by Ners interns from the Professional Nursing Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, Cohort B27, as part of promotive and preventive efforts to enhance the knowledge of patients’ families regarding the dangers of DHF and the preventive measures that can be applied in daily life. The activity was directly supervised by Clinical Instructor Ns. Tifanny.
The materials presented included the definition of DHF, its mode of transmission through Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, signs and symptoms of DHF, and an emphasis on 3M Plus practices: draining water containers, tightly covering water storage, recycling unused items, and additional measures such as using mosquito nets, applying mosquito repellent lotion, and maintaining environmental cleanliness.
During the session, participants actively engaged in the educational activities. Several participants raised questions regarding DHF conditions. One family member asked, “Platelet levels in DHF patients always decrease, why does this happen?” The presenters explained that the decrease in platelet levels occurs because dengue virus infection can affect the blood clotting system, cause faster platelet destruction, and reduce platelet production in the bone marrow. Additionally, increased vascular permeability, a hallmark of DHF, requires close monitoring of the patient’s condition.
The PKRS activity concluded with a brief evaluation session and the delivery of key health messages, encouraging families to consistently implement DHF prevention measures at home and in their surroundings. Through this education, it is expected that public awareness will increase, thereby helping to reduce the incidence of DHF.
