G-FUN 2026: GENCORPS FKp Unair Enhances Fire Emergency Preparedness with the Fire Department

NERS NEWS — Surabaya, September 26, 2026 — GENCORPS of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, organized G-FUN (GENCORPS FUN) 2026 on Saturday (September 26) at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga. One of the activities featured fire prevention and response education and hands-on practice conducted in collaboration with the Fire Department and attended by members of the Faculty of Nursing Unair Student Family. The activity served as an opportunity to improve participants’ knowledge and preparedness in responding to fire emergencies.

The activity began with a presentation by Fire Department officers covering fires, factors that can cause fires, prevention efforts, and appropriate steps to take in the event of a fire. Following the educational session, participants took part in hands-on firefighting practice using burlap sacks and were introduced to the use of Portable Fire Extinguishers (APAR). The practice was conducted under the guidance of Fire Department officers, allowing participants to better understand proper firefighting techniques.

The activity, organized by GENCORPS Faculty of Nursing Unair, was held at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, with members of the Faculty of Nursing Unair Student Family participating as attendees. In addition to educational materials and firefighting practice, the G-FUN 2026 series also featured interactive games that served as a means of fostering camaraderie among participants.

The activity aimed to improve participants’ knowledge and skills in fire prevention and response. Providing both educational materials and hands-on practice was expected to strengthen participants’ preparedness for emergency situations. This effort aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education, through increasing safety awareness and providing practical education and hands-on experience. Furthermore, the collaboration with the Fire Department also reflected SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through joint efforts to provide education and fire response skills.

Through G-FUN 2026, GENCORPS Faculty of Nursing Unair equipped members of the Faculty of Nursing Unair Student Family with knowledge of the importance of preparedness and skills in responding to fires. The education and hands-on practice conducted in collaboration with the Fire Department are expected to provide valuable experience in improving safety awareness and participants’ readiness to respond to emergency situations.
