Group Activity Therapy (TAK): Making Beaded Bracelets to Enhance Elderly Creativity

NERS NEWS — A Group Activity Therapy (TAK) session themed around making beaded bracelets was conducted for older adults as an effort to improve fine motor skills, concentration, and social interaction among participants. The activity was carried out enthusiastically and attended by elderly participants accompanied by nursing students.

The activity began with an explanation regarding the purpose of the therapy and the steps involved in making the bracelets. Participants were then provided with various colorful beads and elastic strings to start creating bracelets according to their own creativity. The elderly participants appeared enthusiastic while selecting colors and arranging their preferred bracelet patterns.

This beaded bracelet-making therapy aimed to train hand-eye coordination, improve concentration, and enhance the patience of older adults in completing an activity. In addition, the activity also served as a form of entertainment and relaxation that could help reduce boredom and stress among the elderly.

Throughout the activity, the students assisted participants who experienced difficulties in threading the beads onto the string. The interaction between the students and the elderly participants created a warm and enjoyable atmosphere. The elderly participants were also seen communicating and encouraging one another during the beading process.

At the end of the activity, most participants successfully completed simple bracelets with diverse and attractive designs. The elderly participants expressed feelings of happiness, enjoyment, and pride in the creations they had made. Through this activity, it is hoped that older adults can remain active, productive, and maintain a better quality of life.
