LENTERA (Calm Elderly, Healthy Joints Without Injury)

NERS NEWS — In an effort to increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining joint health in the elderly, Group 3 of Class A3 organized a health education program called LENTERA (Calm Elderly, Healthy Joints Without Injury) on June 18, 2026. The program focused on the prevention and management of joint pain as an effort to help the elderly remain active, independent, and free from the risk of injury in carrying out their daily activities.

The activity began with an opening session and an explanation of the educational objectives, followed by a presentation on the definition of joint pain, factors that increase the risk of joint disorders in the elderly, signs and symptoms that should be recognized, preventive measures, and various simple ways to maintain joint health. The material was delivered in a communicative manner using engaging educational media, enabling participants to follow each session well. Next, the students demonstrated Range of Motion (ROM) exercises as a simple form of exercise aimed at maintaining joint flexibility, increasing muscle strength, and helping reduce joint stiffness in the elderly. The activity then continued with the screening of a video demonstrating how to prepare a herbal drink made from natural ingredients consisting of lemongrass, turmeric, and honey as a complementary therapy that can be used to help maintain joint health. The demonstration and video presentation received great attention from the participants, who enthusiastically followed every stage and actively asked questions throughout the session.

The atmosphere of the activity was warm, interactive, and full of enthusiasm. The participants showed great interest in the material by actively asking questions, sharing their experiences of joint pain, and discussing ways to maintain joint health in their daily lives. This enthusiasm reflected the participants’ strong awareness of the importance of maintaining quality of life in old age. The interaction between the presenters and participants made the educational process not only informative but also enjoyable and meaningful.

Through this activity, it is hoped that participants will gain a better understanding of the importance of early detection, prevention, and appropriate management of joint pain. The knowledge gained is expected to be applied in daily life so that the elderly can maintain their mobility, reduce the risk of injury, and improve their quality of life.

The LENTERA program represents one of the students’ contributions to improving community health literacy. It is hoped that the education provided will not end with the activity itself but will also be applied and shared with families and the surrounding community. We would like to thank all participants for being part of the LENTERA educational journey. Together, we learned to recognize and manage joint pain, helping the elderly remain active, healthy, and safe in their daily movements to achieve a better quality of life in old age.
