NERS NEWS – On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, a Hospital Health Promotion Program (PKRS) activity was successfully conducted in the Obgyn Outpatient Waiting Room at RSUD Dr. Soetomo under the theme “Management of Expressed Breast Milk to Support Exclusive Breastfeeding for Working Mothers.” This activity was intended for patients and their families in the waiting area as an effort to improve knowledge and motivation among working mothers in maintaining exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0–6 months. The 30-minute educational session was carried out in an interactive and conducive atmosphere.
The material presented included the definition of exclusive breastfeeding, its benefits for both mothers and babies, appropriate breastfeeding frequency, common challenges faced by working mothers, and strategies to maintain exclusive breastfeeding through preparation before returning to work, breast milk expression techniques, proper storage of expressed breast milk, and safe and appropriate methods of feeding expressed milk to infants. In addition, the education emphasized the importance of family and workplace support in the success of exclusive breastfeeding.
The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the activity from beginning to end. They actively listened to the material, asked questions, and engaged in direct discussions with the presenter. Several participants also shared their personal experiences regarding the challenges they face as working mothers in maintaining breast milk supply, which further enriched the understanding of other participants.
Through this PKRS activity, it is hoped that working mothers will better understand proper techniques for expressing and storing breast milk, be able to overcome various breastfeeding challenges, and remain motivated to provide exclusive breastfeeding until their babies reach 6 months of age. The activity concluded with a question-and-answer session, a demonstration of breast milk expression techniques, and the distribution of leaflets as practical guidelines that mothers can directly apply at home and in the workplace.
