NERS NEWS — Surabaya, (September 17) — Group 8 of the Nursing Profession Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) Rotation conducted a health education activity entitled “Together, Let’s Prevent TB: Recognize, Prevent, and Stop Its Transmission” at IRNA 4A GRHA TRIMED. The activity was aimed at patients and their families as an effort to increase their understanding of tuberculosis (TB), prevention methods, and steps that can be taken to break the chain of transmission.
The education was conducted through an interactive delivery of materials on the definition of TB, its causes and modes of transmission, signs and symptoms that need to be recognized, as well as the importance of proper examination and treatment. Participants were also provided with education on preventive behaviors, such as practicing cough etiquette, wearing masks when experiencing symptoms or being in high-risk conditions, maintaining ventilation and air circulation, and avoiding stigma toward TB patients.
This activity aimed to increase public knowledge and awareness that TB is a preventable and treatable disease. Good understanding is expected to encourage the community to be more aware of TB symptoms, undergo early examination, adhere to treatment, and practice clean and healthy living behaviors to help prevent transmission in both family and community environments.
Through this health education activity, Group 8 of the Nursing Profession Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) Rotation also contributed to promotive and preventive efforts in the health sector. Education on TB is also part of supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through increasing health literacy and preventing infectious diseases.
Through this activity, the community is expected to increasingly recognize TB, understand how to prevent its transmission, and not hesitate to undergo examination and complete the treatment. Simple efforts carried out together can become an important step in breaking the chain of TB transmission.
