Nursing Professional Students of Universitas Airlangga Conduct PKRS on Diplopia “Early Detection Education for Double Vision Disorders” at RSUA Eye Clinic

NERS NEWS – Students of the Nursing Professional Education Program, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga conducted a health education session on diplopia (double vision) at the Eye Clinic of Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) on Thursday, April 9, 2026. This activity aimed to improve patients’ and families’ understanding of the causes, symptoms, prevention, and management of diplopia.

Visual disturbances such as diplopia are conditions that need to be taken seriously, as they can interfere with daily activities and may indicate more serious underlying diseases. As part of promotive and preventive efforts, Nursing Professional students organized a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity themed “Diplopia: Proper Prevention and Management” at the RSUA Eye Clinic.

The activity was held in the waiting area of the Eye Clinic, targeting patients and their families. Education was delivered in a communicative and interactive manner through lectures and question-and-answer sessions. Students also used leaflets and posters to make the material easier to understand. The topics covered included the definition of diplopia, its causes, risk factors, signs and symptoms, as well as appropriate prevention and management strategies.

This health education session was carried out by Nursing Professional Students Batch B27, Group 5, Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, under the supervision of academic advisor Prof. Dr. Tintin Sukartini, S.Kp., M.Kes and clinical instructor Ruri Rahmadani, S.Kep., Ns. The activity lasted for 45 minutes, from 09:15 AM to 10:00 AM, and was attended by patients and families receiving services at the RSUA Eye Clinic.

Diplopia can be caused by various factors, including disorders of the eye muscles, nerve abnormalities, and systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Therefore, this educational activity aimed to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and proper management to prevent further complications. Participants were also educated on simple ways to maintain eye health, such as applying the 20-20-20 rule to reduce eye strain.

Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the session, as reflected in their active participation in asking and answering questions. They were also able to restate the material presented as a form of evaluation of their understanding.

This PKRS activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by improving public health, and Goal 4 (Quality Education) through providing accessible and practical health education.

Through this activity, it is expected that patients and their families will gain a better understanding of diplopia and be able to apply appropriate prevention and management measures independently, thereby maintaining good eye health. This initiative also represents the active role of nursing students in improving the quality of public health.
