Postoperative Nutrition Management Education By Unair Nursing Students at IRNA 3 RSUA

NERS NEWS — Nursing students from Group C2 conducted a Community Health Education (PKRS) activity on post-operative nutrition management for patients and their families at IRNA 3, Airlangga University Hospital in Surabaya, on Friday, March 6, 2026. This activity aimed to improve patients’ understanding of how to support the recovery process following surgery.

This PKRS activity took the form of a health education session discussing the importance of post-operative nutrition management, including recommended food types, proper dietary patterns, and the role of nutrition in accelerating wound healing and preventing complications. The material was presented directly using leaflets and interactive communication methods to ensure ease of understanding and to provide an opportunity for patients and their families to discuss the topics together.

The activity was conducted by nursing practicum students from Group C2 under the guidance of healthcare staff from the Airlangga University Hospital. The health education session took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. WIB, in the IRNA 3 waiting room, and was attended by patients and their families.

The purpose of this health education session is to ensure that patients and their families can understand and properly apply post-operative nutritional management in their daily lives. With proper dietary management, patients can boost their immune systems and prevent complications resulting from nutritional deficiencies. Through this session, it is hoped that patients and their families can support the wound healing process more effectively, reduce the risk of complications, and accelerate recovery after surgery.

This educational activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, which focuses on improving the health and well-being of the community. Through education on post-operative nutrition management, patients and their families are equipped with knowledge that can help accelerate the recovery process, prevent complications, and improve quality of life following treatment.

Through this outreach activity, it is hoped that patients and their families will better understand the importance of post-operative nutrition management so that the recovery process proceeds optimally. This activity also serves as a form of student contribution in supporting improvements in public health and the achievement of the SDGs in the health sector.
