Professional Nursing Students of Universitas Airlangga Conduct “RONCE” Play Therapy Activity in the BONA 2 Ward of RSUD Dr. Soetomo

NERS NEWS — Professional Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga conducted a Play Therapy Activity (TAK) themed “RONCE: Arrange, Relieve Anxiety, Create Expression” on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10.00 WIB in the BONA 2 Inpatient Ward of RSUD Dr. Soetomo. This activity was carried out as a form of pediatric nursing intervention through beading play therapy to help reduce hospitalization anxiety while maintaining children’s developmental stimulation during hospital treatment. The activity was conducted through group play using colorful straws and strings arranged into various creative forms according to the children’s imagination.

This play therapy activity was intended for preschool-aged pediatric patients with stable clinical conditions who were able to follow simple instructions. Throughout the activity, the children appeared enthusiastic in participating in every stage of the game, starting from selecting straw colors, threading the straws onto strings, and arranging patterns according to their own creativity. The students actively provided guidance, motivation, and praise to encourage the children to remain enthusiastic and confident in completing their beadwork creations. In addition to serving as entertainment, the beading activity also helped improve fine motor skills, concentration, social abilities, and self-expression among the children during hospitalization.

The activity was conducted by Group 4 of Batch B27 Professional Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, consisting of Endah Nabila Sutrisno Putri, Rista Zulfidha Rindi, Fianita Fitri Sa’idah, and Syah Reza Alfiana Nuro Aini. The activity was supervised by Dr. Praba Diyan Rachmawati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep. as the academic supervisor and Eva Yuliyanti, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep. as the clinical supervisor, both of whom provided guidance and supervision throughout the implementation of the play therapy.

The implementation of this beading play therapy aimed to help children adapt to the hospital environment, reduce fear and anxiety caused by hospitalization, and support optimal child growth and development despite undergoing medical treatment. In addition, this activity also served as a medium for children to express their creativity and emotions through the artwork they created themselves. Through a fun and supportive play atmosphere, children were expected to become more relaxed, cooperative, and comfortable during hospitalization.

The “RONCE” TAK activity was carried out smoothly and received positive responses from both the children and their families. The children appeared happier, more interactive, and proud to show the beadwork they had created. Through this activity, the Professional Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga contributed to supporting holistic and atraumatic pediatric nursing services in hospitals while also supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through promotive and supportive efforts for pediatric patients during hospitalization.
