
NERS NEWS — Surabaya, March 13, 2026 – Professional Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga , carried out a Hospital Health Promotion (PKRS) activity themed “Early Detection and Prevention of Osteoporosis” at the Surgical Clinic B of Universitas Airlangga Hospital. This activity aimed to increase the knowledge of patients and their families regarding the importance of maintaining bone health, as well as efforts for early detection and prevention of osteoporosis.
The PKRS activity was conducted from 09:00 to 09:20 AM using lecture and interactive discussion methods. Students utilized educational media such as posters and leaflets to help participants better understand the material presented. The topics covered included the definition of osteoporosis, risk factors, signs and symptoms, early detection methods, and prevention strategies through the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
This activity was attended by patients and their families who were undergoing examinations at Surgical Clinic B of Universitas Airlangga Hospital. During the implementation, the students were guided and supervised by Academic Advisor Mr. Rifky Octavia Pradipta, S.Kep., M.Kep, and Clinical Preceptors Mrs. Retno Muji, S.Kep., Ns and Mrs. Rizki Putri K, S.Kep., Ns.
This health education aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining bone health from an early age. Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by decreased bone mass and density, making bones fragile and more prone to fractures. Participants were informed about risk factors such as lack of physical activity, low intake of calcium and vitamin D, smoking habits, and aging.
In addition, students explained preventive measures including regular exercise, consuming calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and undergoing routine health check-ups.
Participants showed great enthusiasm, as seen from their active involvement during the discussion and question-and-answer session. They not only listened to the material but also asked various questions related to maintaining bone health and practical steps to prevent osteoporosis in daily life.
This activity aligns with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, which focuses on improving public health through education and disease prevention. Through this PKRS activity, Unair Nursing Professional students are expected to contribute to enhancing public knowledge and promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent various health problems, including osteoporosis.
