
NERS NEWS – Nursing Profession students from Universitas Airlangga, as part of the Community and Family Nursing rotation, conducted a health education session entitled “Trias Aman (Anti-Bullying, Limit Screen Time, Stay Safe from Cigarettes)” on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, for fifth-grade students at SD Mabadiul Ulum, Surabaya. The activity aimed to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of bullying prevention, responsible gadget use, and protection from cigarettes and cigarette smoke.
The health education session was conducted as an effort to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of three health-related issues that are closely associated with school-age children: bullying, excessive screen time, and exposure to cigarette smoke.
The activity focused on improving participants’ understanding of the dangers of bullying, the importance of limiting screen time according to age, and developing attitudes and commitments to stay away from cigarettes. The materials covered the definition of bullying, factors contributing to bullying, types and impacts of bullying, and ways to address bullying. The session also discussed screen time, types of screen-based activities, the benefits and impacts of gadget use, and alternative activities to replace gadget use. In addition, participants learned about cigarettes, the effects of smoking from an early age, and ways to protect themselves from cigarette smoke.
The activity began with an orientation, followed by a pre-test to assess the participants’ initial knowledge. The Trias Aman materials were then delivered through lectures, educational videos, and visual media consisting of a PowerPoint presentation and a standing banner. The materials covered the definition, types, impacts, and ways to address bullying; the definition, benefits, and impacts of screen time as well as alternative activities to gadget use; and the definition of cigarettes, the effects of smoking from an early age, and ways to protect oneself from exposure to cigarette smoke. After the presentation, the activity continued with a discussion and question-and-answer session, followed by a post-test to evaluate participants’ understanding of the materials provided.
The activity was facilitated by Nursing Profession students from Universitas Airlangga and supported by a clinical supervisor and the person in charge of the School Health Unit (UKS) from Puskesmas Klampis Ngasem. Throughout the activity, participants demonstrated enthusiasm and cooperation by paying attention to the materials presented and actively participating in the discussion and question-and-answer session. Based on the process evaluation, the health education session proceeded smoothly and in accordance with the objectives that had been established.

Through this activity, students were expected to be able to practice healthy behaviors, respect one another, use gadgets responsibly, and protect themselves from cigarettes and exposure to cigarette smoke. In this way, students could also contribute to creating a safe, comfortable, healthy, and child-friendly school environment.
The health education session was expected to improve students’ knowledge, awareness, and ability to practice healthy behaviors, prevent bullying, manage screen time responsibly, and protect themselves from cigarettes and cigarette smoke. In addition, the activity was expected to encourage students to respect one another and actively contribute to creating a safe, comfortable, healthy, and child-friendly school environment.
This activity supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being — The health education session contributes to improving children’s health through education on bullying prevention, healthy gadget use, and protection from exposure to cigarette smoke. These three topics are related to children’s physical, mental, and social health.
- SDG 4: Quality Education — The health education session provided students with health knowledge and practical skills to recognize risky behaviors, make healthy decisions, and create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities — Anti-bullying education encourages students to respect differences and avoid discrimination against their peers. Therefore, the activity supports the creation of an inclusive and respectful school environment.
- SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions — The anti-bullying material contributes to creating a safe, peaceful, and violence-free school environment. Students were also encouraged to report and seek help when they experience or witness bullying.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals — The implementation of this activity demonstrated collaboration among Nursing Profession students, educational institutions, the school, and healthcare services in promoting the health of school-age children. The activity involved coordination and task distribution among group members in preparing the materials and media, implementing the activity, and conducting the evaluation.
This “Trias Aman (Anti-Bullying, Limit Screen Time, Stay Safe from Cigarettes)” UKS health education activity was conducted as part of the documentation of the program. The activity is expected to improve students’ knowledge, attitudes, and awareness of maintaining personal health, respecting others, using technology responsibly, and staying away from cigarettes and exposure to cigarette smoke.
The activity is expected not only to provide students with knowledge but also to encourage them to practice healthy behaviors in their daily lives and contribute to creating a safe, comfortable, healthy, and child-friendly school environment.
