NERS NEWS — Semarang — Three students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, Fania Layla Sabrina, Ummu Habibah, and Fathimah Dinda, participated in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Student Exchange Program at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, for one semester. The program provided students with the opportunity to gain learning experiences across higher education institutions, broaden their academic perspectives, and develop professional competencies through various learning activities and nursing practice.
The program began with an orientation session introducing students to the academic environment of Diponegoro University, its learning system, and various educational support facilities. Throughout the semester, the students participated in a series of academic activities, including lectures, laboratory practicums, international guest lectures, the Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE), and learning evaluations. The learning process was conducted onsite during the first three months, followed by online learning for the next three months in accordance with the MBKM Program guidelines.
One of the valuable experiences gained during the program was the opportunity to attend an International Guest Lecture by Benedikt Schneider, BSc, MA, from Freiburg University Medical Center, Germany, on “Intensive Care for Stroke Patients and Early Transition to Rehabilitation.” In addition, the students gained learning experiences through various academic and practical activities that supported the development of critical thinking, professional communication, collaboration, and adaptation to a new learning environment.

The MBKM Student Exchange Program at Diponegoro University served as a platform for students to broaden their academic experiences while enhancing their competencies as future professional nurses. The program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving access to quality education, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening collaboration among higher education institutions in supporting the development of human resources in the healthcare sector.
Through this program, the students not only gained learning experiences at a partner university but also expanded their academic network, enhanced their adaptability, and enriched their perspectives in delivering professional nursing care. These experiences are expected to serve as valuable preparation for facing future professional challenges and making meaningful contributions to society.
