NERS NEWS – Group 2 students from the Nursing Profession Program at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, held a Hospital Health Education (PKRS) session at the OK Graha Trimed Room on Friday (04/03/2026). The activity focused on educating families about postoperative wound care and infection prevention strategies. Given that the recovery period is a crucial phase, the students emphasized that family members play a vital role in optimizing infection prevention.

The session was conducted through lectures, discussions, and live demonstrations on proper handwashing techniques to prevent the transmission of pathogenic bacteria and viruses. The material covered techniques for maintaining surgical site hygiene, early recognition of infection signs, and the importance of high-protein nutrition to accelerate tissue regeneration. The activity received a positive response, with families of surgical patients showing great enthusiasm. The discussion became lively during the Q&A session, as many parents and spouses consulted on practical “dos and don’ts” regarding surgical wounds.

This educational initiative, which is part of the Medical-Surgical Nursing (KMB) clinical rotation, was supervised by academic advisor Ms. Nauvilla Fitrotul Aini, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., along with clinical instructors Ners Dian Wahyu, S.Kep., Ns., and Ners Dian Mutiara, S.Kep., Ns. This activity also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by focusing on improving public health through promotive and preventive efforts.

Through this PKRS activity, it is hoped that patient families will no longer feel anxious during the home recovery period and will be able to independently apply the infection prevention principles taught by the young nursing students.
